Understanding Birth Injury Terms and Definitions

Galea Aponeurotica
- A tough layer of dense tissue which covers the upper part of the cranium.
Gestation
- The development of a fetus from conception until birth; pregnancy.
- Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy in women who don't already have diabetes.
- Globus pallidus injury is also associated with dyskinetic or athetoid cerebral palsy. The globus pallidus appears as a single mass, but it can be divided into two distinct parts. When a baby has elevated bilirubin (jaundice) for too long, the bilirubin can enter the brain and cause a form of brain damage called kernicterus. Bilirubin is toxic to the brain.
Glucose
- The principal circulating sugar in the blood, and the major energy source of the body.
